Villanovaforru, Nuraghe Genna Maria

Nuraghe Genna Maria is a Nuragic complex on a hilltop in Villanovaforru, South Sardinia, from the Final Bronze Age. The Nuragic civilisation, active in Sardinia from roughly 1800 BCE to 238 BCE, built stone towers called nuraghi for defensive, residential and ritual uses. Genna Maria, like many such structures, commanded a strategic view over the surrounding landscape. Its ruins offer a tangible link to a long-lived, enigmatic culture that left thousands of these towers across the island.
