Villa di Tiberio

The Villa di Tiberio is a large Roman villa that once belonged to the emperor Tiberius in the 1st century AD. It stands in the town of Sperlonga, in the province of Latina, Lazio. Since 1963, the villa has been part of the itinerary of the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Sperlonga. The site includes the remains of the imperial residence, a grotto, and a fishpond, with fragments of sculptural groups that once decorated the cave. The villa’s coastal setting, with views over the Tyrrhenian Sea, suggests it was a place of retreat and leisure. Its discovery and excavation have revealed much about Roman luxury and engineering.
