Villa Reale

This villa stands alone on a gentle slope, half-concealed within a thicket of trees. It is a simple, block-like structure, distinguished by a two-storey belvedere tower that gives the whole building a slightly watchful, aspirational air. The semi-basement holds three rooms; from the ground floor, a stone staircase leads up to a first floor of seven rooms, and from there a marble staircase climbs to the tower itself.

The main facade is its most deliberate feature, with balconies resting on shaped stone corbels, while the door and windows are framed in stone and fitted with iron grilles. Beyond the principal rooms, the property includes spaces linked to agricultural work and two separate dwelling units. One imagines a house built for looking out, for overseeing both the formal interiors and the practical business of the land, a country seat that never quite forgets it is also a workplace.
