Villa di Faragola

The ancient Roman villa of Faragola, five kilometres from Ausculum in today's province of Foggia, was a large, luxurious residence. Excavations begun in 2001 have uncovered part of the estate, including elaborate thermal baths and a dining room. Unusually for Roman villas, it reached its greatest extent between the 4th and 6th centuries, a period when many such estates were in decline. The site offers a rare glimpse into late Roman aristocratic life, with its preserved stibadium, a semicircular dining couch, still visible in the grand hall.
