On the road connecting San Severino Marche to Passo di Treia, Villa Berta takes its name from the stream that marks the boundary with the neighbouring comune. This is a classic Maceratese country residence, its most distinctive feature being the angular turrets that crown the rear elevation, a quiet architectural flourish typical of the region’s landed gentry.
The villa comprises a main block with an annexe set against its left rear flank, a chapel, a greenhouse, and a drying shed. The chapel, dedicated to Saint Anthony, would once have served the household and estate workers, while the essiccatoio hints at a practical rural economy, perhaps for tobacco or fruit. The ensemble is a self-contained world: a place of both cultivation and retreat, where the formal lines of the house meet the functional outbuildings in a landscape shaped by centuries of agricultural life.
