Valley of the Temples

The Valle dei Templi, or Valley of the Temples, is an archaeological site in Agrigento, Sicily, though the name is a misnomer: the site sits on a ridge outside the town, not in a valley. It is one of the most outstanding examples of ancient Greek art and architecture from Magna Graecia, and a major Sicilian attraction. The remains include several Doric temples, such as the Temple of Concordia, remarkably well preserved, and the Temple of Juno, set on the ridge’s eastern edge. The site also features the remains of sanctuaries, necropolises, and fortifications, all dating from the 5th and 6th centuries BC.
