Tomba di giganti Sa Domu Beccia

In the quiet Sardinian countryside, the Tomba di giganti Sa Domu Beccia stands as a monumental relic of the Nuragic civilisation. These ‘giants’ tombs’ were collective burial places, built across the island during the Bronze Age. This example follows the classic form: a long, rectangular burial chamber, its rear wall curved into an apse, while the front opens into a semicircular exedra. The effect is that of a stone ship, its prow sunk into the earth.

The builders used roughly squared basalt blocks, laid in regular courses to create a double-faced wall, a sturdy, no-nonsense construction that has kept its shape over millennia.
