Teatro Marrucino

This is a theatre of two lives. The older part, completely restructured, retains its richly stuccoed ceiling and chandelier; the newer part, built in 1972, is a separate annexe housing offices, a specialist library, rehearsal rooms, a soundproofed audition room, and rational, modern dressing rooms that open directly onto the stage. The elegant bar, at 180 square metres, doubles as a conference and exhibition space. The horseshoe-shaped auditorium seats 502: 132 in the stalls, 248 in boxes of varying sizes, and 43 in the gallery. The stone-faced façade is centred on a rusticated portal with an arched opening. It is a complex hybrid, then, Baroque in spirit, but with the functional additions of a working modern theatre.
