The Teatro Civico of Trino is a small Baroque theatre whose façade, composed of horizontal bands and capped by a rectangular pediment bearing the town’s coat of arms, blends almost indistinguishably into the surrounding buildings. In the lower band, two pairs of pilasters flank the entrance, supporting a rigid entablature that suggests a portico leading to the atrium within. The middle band, finished in light rustication, features five small windows. Above this, the final, wider band is of smooth plaster, dominated by a large central window. This window is no longer visible from the interior, however, because the ceiling was lowered at the beginning of this century. The theatre’s understated exterior is typical of many provincial Baroque playhouses, where modesty of means often resulted in a quiet, almost domestic integration into the urban fabric.
