Thucydides relates that the Sikels (or Sicels) who would settle the island of Sicily and impart their name thereto got their start in the Italian peninsula and would eventually migrate to Sicily via raft. Thucydides goes on to relate that Italy, in fact, takes its name from Italus, a Siceliote king.
