Seminario Diocesano

The Seminario Diocesano in Nicastro stands in the old part of town, hard by the Cathedral and the municipal buildings. Its form is almost rectangular, and the main façade is deliberately plain, save for one notable feature: the entrance portal, a piece of fine, antique craftsmanship that lifts the whole frontage. Inside, at ground level, a rectangular courtyard is softened by a profusion of plants. Around it cluster the small rooms where seminarians once applied themselves to their studies, teaching rooms and study cells. Also on this floor are the kitchen and the refectory, the latter looking out over a small football pitch belonging to the seminary. The building is a quiet, functional piece of the Baroque era, designed not for display but for the orderly business of religious education, its only flourish reserved for the door through which one enters.
