This church, dedicated to Santa Maria Odigitria, a title derived from the late Greek for 'she who leads the way', was inaugurated in 1933. It is the continuation of an ancient monastery of San Basilio Craterete, founded between the late 10th and early 11th centuries, its reconstruction undertaken by monks from the Greek Abbey of Grottaferrata near Rome. The monastic complex was enlarged in 1956, with a room adapted for meetings and a hall for a library. In 2006, it was elevated to a Diocesan Sanctuary. Damaged by an earthquake in 2012, it was closed, then reopened for worship in 2021 following restoration. The principal feast occurs on the Tuesday of Pentecost. That evening, the icon is carried in procession to the parish church of San Giovanni Battista for a vigil. Monday brings the Divine Liturgy and an afternoon procession through the town, returning to the sanctuary. On Tuesday, after the Holy Mass, the office of the Paraklisis is celebrated in honour of the Odigitria, followed by the 'Incanti'.
