In the parish of San Pietro "in Vincoli", in the Calabrian comune of Terravecchia, stands the Santuario di Santa Maria del Monte Carmelo. Built in the first half of the seventeenth century, it is a Baroque church that, for local believers, became a place of particular devotional significance. The sanctuary’s focal point is an ancient fresco of the Madonna del Carmine, the image that has long drawn the faithful.

Like many Italian churches of the period, the structure was designed to inspire both awe and intimacy. It remains a working sanctuary, with small meeting rooms, a garden and a picnic area, suggesting a place that serves the community beyond the purely liturgical. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the archpriest Don Agostino Tursi oversaw a restoration of the roof, floor, altar and external plasterwork, preserving the church for a new generation. It is a modest, well-cared-for building, its baroque lines softened by the surrounding landscape.
