The Santuario Basilica Sant'Angelo d'Acri rises in the presila hills of Cosenza, the birthplace of the Capuchin friar whose name it bears. This Renaissance church, a minor basilica and diocesan sanctuary, commemorates a man whose life traced an arc from humble origins to fervent mission. Born Luca Antonio Falcone in 1669 to a peasant farmer and a baker, he wrestled with his vocation, twice setting aside the religious habit before professing perpetual vows in 1691. Ordained in 1700, he became Angelo d’Acri, a preacher who for 38 years traversed southern Italy and Calabria, his 'flame of charity' burning through popular missions, Lenten sermons, and spiritual exercises. Beatified in 1825, his remains rest here, in the church built to hold the memory of a man who spoke in ardent, plain language, caring only for souls and the glory of God. The sanctuary stands as a stone testament to that persistent, wandering faith.
