Santuario della Madonna del Ponte

This is a Baroque church, a style known for its theatricality and ornate detail, though the Santuario della Madonna del Ponte presents a more sober version of the form. The facade is anchored by a central limestone portal, its carving restrained to light mouldings and square stone blocks at the base of the jambs, decorated with floral reliefs. Baroque corbels support the architrave above, which in turn frames a window; above that, a plaster inscription from 1724. A smaller arched portal, with a Baroque keystone, sits to the right. The upper facade is punctuated by three windows, and the square bell tower, its tufa stonework left exposed, is marked by a series of windows. The tower’s topmost element, housing a bell from 1585, is a later addition. Inside, the single nave is covered by a vault.
