On the hill of Grignano, located on the outskirts of Montebuono, the remains of a Roman villa were first excavated in the nineteenth century in the area of the church of "S. Pietro ad centum muros". Excavation in the 1990s revealed further villa remains beneath the church and in the vicinity of its cemetery. Epigraphic evidence attesting to the consulship of M. Vipsanius Agrippa was discovered immured in the church (CIL 9.4677 and 9.4779).
