Rubico (river)

A river in northeastern Italy that served, during the late Roman Republic, as the southern boundary of the province of Cisalpine Gaul, and which Caesar famously crossed with an army in 49 BCE, thereby precipitating the Roman Civil War. Its modern location is debated (see "Connections" and "Details" sections).
