Roman amphitheater at Al(l)ifae

The Anfiteatro romano di Alife, in the comune of Alife in the province of Caserta, Campania, is a Roman-era amphitheatre and one of the most significant monuments of the ancient city of Allifae. That city was a Roman colony founded after the conquest of Samnium in 290 BC. The structure’s remains offer a tangible link to that early colonial period. Its dimensions and construction details, though fragmentary, suggest a modest but functional venue for spectacles, typical of a regional Roman settlement. The site is a quiet, evocative fragment of Campania’s layered history, where the stonework speaks of a past both Roman and pre-Roman.
