parco, commemorativo/ ai caduti della prima e seconda guerra mondiale, Parco della Rimembranza di Villalago

The Parco della Rimembranza in Villalago sits along via Roma, a quadrangular space raised above the road by a short flight of steps, enclosed on three sides by iron fencing set between stone pillars. A rear opening breaks the hedge that runs the perimeter. Within, standard park furniture and a small fountain frame the war memorial, a votive brazier surmounting the stone on which the plaques are fixed. The bronze panel at the front, by comparison with other examples, appears to be the work of the sculptor Torquato Tamagnini; two further marble lists record the dead of the Second World War. According to these records, nineteen fell in the first conflict, thirty-six in the second: fifty-five names in total. Only eight rather small lime trees now grow within the park itself. A further forty or so, of varying sizes, line via Roma in seemingly haphazard fashion, as if others have been removed. The layout insists upon the space as a sacred enclosure, with its trees as living memorials.
