Palazzo Trigona di Cannicarao

This palazzo, a study in disciplined geometry, presents a regular, prismatic volume to the world, its bulk anchored by subordinate wings. The organisation is a masterclass in spatial clarity, unfolding from a ground-floor entrance hall that simultaneously frames a view of the garden court and grants access to the main staircase. This rises to a vestibule on the piano nobile, set at the rear of the building and deliberately opened to the valley beyond, a theatrical gesture that distributes the reception rooms. A secondary route leads up to the attic floor, carved into the roof spaces. The symmetrical placement of the entrance hall below and the vestibule above is not mere formality; it allowed the two halves of the building, on either side of the transverse axis, to function independently. The structure is a dialogue of materials: regular load-bearing walls of rubble core, bonded at the corners, are punctuated on the raised ground floor by pillars of squared calcarenite stone. Barrel vaults ground the building, while flat ceilings define the upper floors.
