This is a town palazzo, a multi-family dwelling of a type common across Italy, where urban space was at a premium and buildings were fitted to the street rather than the other way around. The plan is irregular, the structure rising three storeys in rendered stone masonry. The main facade follows the erratic line of the road before it; windows and stone-moulded doorways are arranged asymmetrically, without the formal symmetry of a grander palace. An external stone staircase climbs the front, a practical concession to the multiple households within. The roof is pitched, finished with a plain, linear cornice. Inside, there are five residential units and three storage rooms. This is a building shaped by pragmatism and the slow accumulation of centuries, its quirks a record of the lives lived within its walls rather than any architect's grand design.
