Palazzo Norante

Palazzo Norante presents a quietly authoritative face to the piazza, yet its true character is more complex. The building leans against the southern flank of the church of Sant’Anna, its plan unfolding in a pragmatic, asymmetrical response to its site: two storeys on the square, three at the back and side. The masonry is mixed, rendered with plaster, and the roof shifts between pitched slopes and a terrace. This is a palazzo built for life, not just for show. Within its walls, ten residential units, three shops, six storerooms and a hotel suggest a building that has always been a working part of the town’s fabric, adapting over time to house commerce, storage, and hospitality under one roof. It is a solid, unshowy piece of urban architecture, more concerned with function than with making a grand statement, yet its very adaptability speaks of centuries of quiet, useful presence.
