Palazzo De Palatis

This is a palace of purposeful angles and modest grandeur. Its L-shaped plan is built of load-bearing masonry, the ground floor in regular courses of exposed stone, the upper storeys rendered smooth. A shallow hipped roof, clad in traditional clay tiles, crowns the whole, finished with a distinctive “a romanelle” cornice, a row of small, rounded corbels that speak of local building craft.

The main facade, facing onto Via Roma, is a study in symmetrical composure. A central portal anchors the composition, with a row of windows at the first floor and a line of balconies above. Each opening is framed in brick, with simple jambs and architraves that give the building a quiet, workmanlike dignity. On the southern front, a vaulted passageway cuts through the ground floor, leading to Via Cortina della Terra, a functional urban gesture. It is a palazzo built not for show, but for solid, respectable city life.
