Opera Cavaliere del Forte di Exilles

The Exilles Fort is a fortified complex in the Susa Valley, Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, Northern Italy. It sits on a spur commanding one of the narrowest sections of the valley, along the main road connecting Turin to France. Together with the nearby Fort of Fenestrelle and the Forte Albertino, it was part of the defensive line between the House of Savoy lands and France; both states held it in different phases, depending on the outcome of various wars. The fort’s history is thus a quiet chronicle of shifting borders and military necessity, its stones bearing witness to the tug-of-war between two powerful neighbours.
