Museo civico G. A. Irico

The Museo civico G. A. Irico occupies part of a former convent of the Terzine Domenicane nuns, on the western side of Piazza Garibaldi. Its street-facing façade is unremarkable: two storeys, simply marked by a row of windows with balconies on the upper floor. The real interest lies within. The internal façade, though heavily reworked, still shows blind arches on pillars at ground level, the remains of an eighteenth-century portico, a design repeated in all the surrounding buildings that once belonged to the convent. Inside, recently restored for the museum, a series of rooms with cross-vaulted or groined pavilion ceilings has been divided into seven galleries. The collection begins with archaeological finds from the pre-Christian era. It is a quiet, scholarly space, more about what has been uncovered than what is displayed.
