Mura Messapiche

The Parco Archeologico delle Mura Messapiche covers 150,000 square metres northeast of Manduria, in the province of Taranto. Here survive extensive sections of the triple circuit of walls that enclosed the city in Messapian times, along with the largest Messapian necropolis ever discovered. Also within the park are the Fonte Pliniano, a spring known since antiquity, and the medieval church of San Pietro Mandurino. It is an open-air record of layers of settlement, from the pre-Roman peoples of Apulia through to the Middle Ages.
