Mont'e Prama

At the archaeological site of Mont’e Prama, in the comune of Cabras, central-western Sardinia, the Giants of Mont’e Prama stand as extraordinary witnesses to the Nuragic civilisation. These ancient stone sculptures, carved from local sandstone, were discovered in March 1974 on farmland, fragmented into numerous pieces. Their height varies between two and 2.6 metres, and they depict warriors, archers and boxers, their features stylised and imposing. The site offers a rare glimpse into the Bronze Age culture that once thrived on the island, a civilisation known for its enigmatic nuraghi towers. The statues remain a poignant puzzle, their original purpose and arrangement still debated, but their presence here is undeniably powerful.
