Mausoleo di Ummidia Quadratilla

The Mausoleo di Ummidia Quadratilla is a tomb within the archaeological area of Cassino. The robust structure stands on the south-eastern slopes of Montecassino, built into the walls of the ancient city of Casinum. It was constructed from large, squared blocks, perfectly joined without mortar, held together only by internal lead clamps. This technique allowed it to withstand the wear of time, earthquakes, and, most recently, the violence of war, without suffering substantial damage.
