Matrinos (river)

An ancient river of Picenum, mentioned by Strabo and Ptolemy, which is to be identified with the modern Torrente Piomba. The ancient Latin name is reflected in that of a coastal road station labeled on the Peutinger map (Macrinum), whence (correcting "c" to "t" after the Greek sources) BAtlas "Matrinus? fl."
