Malchittu nuragic temple

In the countryside near Arzachena, on the edge of a valley where the Rio Bucchilalgu flows, the Tempietto Nuragico Malchittu is a Nuragic complex. It comprises a temple, a nearly collapsed nuraghe, a large circular hut, and a series of ‘a tafone’ tombs. The site lies about a kilometre east of the town, in Sardinia’s Gallura region. Its name refers to the temple structure, a rare example of Nuragic religious architecture, though the surrounding elements suggest a broader settlement or ritual area. The tombs, carved into natural rock cavities, add a funereal dimension to the ensemble. The nuraghe, now mostly rubble, once stood as a defensive or communal tower. This compact complex offers a glimpse into the island’s prehistoric civilisation, its purpose and daily life still partly mysterious.
