Magazzini Castello Di Capua

Magazzini Castello di Capua is a long, trapezoidal fortress building, its pitched roof a clear statement of purpose. Two storeys are marked by a stringcourse on the main façade: at street level, two low-arched openings; above, an airy loggia runs the length of the front. An external stone staircase leads up to this loggia and the first floor, a practical arrangement that also gives the building a pleasing asymmetry. The ground floor is of stone, while the upper loggia is in exposed brick; wooden beams and trusses support the roof of terracotta tiles. Inside, four generous exhibition spaces, two per floor, are connected by that same exterior stair. The rooms are in good repair, with terracotta floors, white walls, and ceilings that reveal the restored wooden rafters and trusses. It is a straightforward, sturdy structure, more granary than palace, and its recent restoration has left the bones of the building honestly visible.
