Longola di Poggiomarino

Area Archeo - Fluviale di Longola

The Area Archeo-Fluviale di Longola, in Poggiomarino near Naples, lies in the Sarno valley east of Vesuvius. Excavations here uncovered a Bronze Age village built on artificial islets, separated by navigable canals in a marshy area. The anaerobic environment preserved the entire structure of the islets and several wooden dugout canoes in excellent condition. This waterlogged settlement offers a rare, intact glimpse into prehistoric life and engineering in the region.
