Is Pirois

The sacred well of Is Pirois is a Nuragic archaeological monument, located in the Is Pirois area within the municipality of Villaputzu, in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari. It features an intact false dome, or tholos, and a second chamber above it, which is partially destroyed. This structure belongs to the Bronze Age Nuragic civilisation, a culture known for its distinctive stone towers and sacred water sites across Sardinia. The well's precise construction date remains uncertain, but it reflects the sophisticated engineering of the Nuragic people, who built such wells for ritual purposes, often associated with water cults. The site offers a glimpse into the island's pre-Roman past, though much of its original context has been lost to time.
