Impianto delle Saline di Stintino

The Torre delle Saline is a fortified tower, part of the defensive, lookout and communication system that protected Sardinia’s coasts from the early Middle Ages until the mid-19th century. Classified as a torre de armas for heavy defence, it also served as a key garrison for the ancient tuna fisheries and salt pans operating nearby since the 1200s. The tower holds visual contact with the towers of Porto Torres, Trabucado and Capo Falcone. This structure is the central feature of the Impianto delle Saline di Stintino, the saltworks installation on the Stintino peninsula in north-west Sardinia.
