The Casa del Citarista, a large residential property at I.4.5/25 in ancient Pompeii, takes its name from the bronze statue of Apollo playing the cithara discovered in its central peristyle. Situated at the intersection of the Via dell’Abbondanza and the Via Stabiana, this was a wealthy home, its status confirmed by the high quality of its wall paintings, mosaics and bronze statues. The house offers a vivid glimpse into domestic life among Pompeii’s elite before the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79.
