Praedia di Giulia Felice

The Praedia di Giulia Felice, or House of Julia Felix, is a substantial Roman property on the Via dell’Abbondanza in Pompeii. It originally belonged to Julia Felix, who after the major earthquake of 62 AD (a precursor to Vesuvius’s eruption in 79 AD) converted parts of her residence into rental apartments and public spaces. This adaptation reflects the city’s recovery efforts and the pragmatic use of domestic architecture for commercial and social purposes. The site offers a tangible glimpse into Roman urban life, with its preserved rooms, courtyards, and bathing facilities illustrating how a private home could evolve into a multifunctional community hub before Pompeii’s final destruction.
