Galleria di Gola del Forte Bramafam

The Forte Bramafam, a late-19th-century fortification in the Val di Susa near Bardonecchia (TO), stands on the eponymous ridge at 1,447 metres above sea level, on the south-eastern edge of the Bardonecchia basin. By both its extent and its armament, it is considered the largest fortified work of the late 1800s in the Cottian Alps. Its name, meaning 'scream of hunger' in local dialect, hints at a more folkloric past. The structure commands a strategic position, its stone and concrete bulk still visible against the alpine sky, a testament to military engineering at the turn of the century.
