Forum

The Forum of Pompeii was the principal square of the ancient city, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79 and uncovered during the archaeological excavations. It served as the political, economic and religious centre, where public events, commercial transactions and debates took place. Remarkably well-preserved, it is considered one of the finest surviving examples of its kind among ancient Italic towns. The rectangular space is flanked by the remains of important public buildings, including temples, a basilica and market halls, all offering a vivid sense of daily life in a Roman city frozen in time.
