Ex torre colombaia

This is no ordinary tower. What began as a torre colombaia, a dovecote tower, built to house pigeons for meat, eggs, and fertiliser, has since absorbed a farmhouse and a staircase, growing into a strange, additive silhouette against the Italian countryside. The original core remains, a sturdy, functional structure typical of rural estates where such towers were once a common feature of the agricultural landscape. Later additions were attached without ceremony, each answering a practical need: shelter, access, storage. The result is an architectural palimpsest, where the logic of survival and reuse is written plainly in stone. It stands not as a monument, but as a working building that simply refused to stop evolving.
