Ex Convento S. Giuseppe ed Anna

The long, continuous façade of this former monastery runs along Via San Domenico, its pale tufa blocks catching the light and revealing the stone’s porous texture. The main volume rises four storeys, while the adjoining sections step down to two, creating a quiet, asymmetrical rhythm along the street. The church, convent and bell tower are all folded into one unbroken frontage, a common arrangement for urban monastic complexes, where space was tight and the community’s presence needed to register without fuss. Tufa, a soft volcanic stone quarried locally, was a practical choice across much of central Italy: easy to cut, warm in colour, and durable once set. The partial exposure of the masonry, left unrendered in places, gives the building an honest, unadorned quality. Now deconsecrated, the structure stands as a solid, slightly reticent monument to the daily routines of prayer and work that once filled its rooms.
