Ex Convento Dell'Angelo Custode ora Villa Amici

This square-plan monastery, rising over two storeys, is a robust essay in local brickwork. The load-bearing structure is left exposed, its warm terracotta tones catching the Italian light, while the pitched roof sits squarely above. At its heart lies an internal courtyard, the cloister, in effect, which would have once provided the monks with a quiet, ordered space for contemplation and daily chores. Such quadrangular layouts were typical of monastic architecture, designed to separate the community from the outside world while centring life around a shared, open-air core. The complex later found a new identity as Villa Amici, its name a gentle irony: the guardian angel of the original convent now watches over a secular household. The brickwork remains unchanged, but the silence has been replaced by the rhythms of domestic life, a quiet evolution from spiritual retreat to family home.
