Duronia

The compilers of the Barrington Atlas include two ancient places called "Duronia" on map 44. This instance of Duronia corresponds to a fortified Samnite settlement that S.P. Oakley refers to as "Civita di Duronia". This place corresponds to a present-day Italian comune located in the province of Campobasso. As is often true with the observable settlement pattern, the ancient fortified center occupies an elevated position while its post-ancient successor (in this case, the source of the toponym) eschews the high ground for more level terrain. The difference in elevation between the ancient fortified center and the present-day Duronia is more than 120 meters.
