Domus of Publius Confuleius Sabbio

Beneath a private apartment block on Corso Aldo Moro in Santa Maria Capua Vetere lies the Domus Confuleius, the home of a freedman named Publio Confuleio Sabbione, likely of eastern origin. He was a sagarius: in this house he both sold and worked the sagum, a heavy wool cloak worn by low-ranking Roman soldiers. The site offers a rare glimpse into the commercial and domestic life of a former slave turned craftsman and merchant in ancient Capua.
