The campanile of the Cattedrale Maria Santissima Assunta in Cielo already Santa Maria del Parco stands apart from the present church, a detached tower of considerable architectural interest. A double-flight staircase cuts through its base, leading to an open hemicycle, within which a portal opens onto the transept, aligning with the surviving nave of the earlier church. This is a remarkably direct piece of evidence for the original medieval plan. The masonry is a study in contrasts: squared travertine blocks give way to local stone with a neat brick facing. In 1961, the structure underwent serious consolidation: foundations were reinforced, and the mass of the tower was injected with cement grout, while the four main piers were stitched with hidden frames and oblique ties. Reinforced concrete floors were also added. The tower thus carries its long history in its very fabric, a medieval core, a Baroque reorientation, and a modern intervention all held together.
