Complesso torre difensiva e mura urbiche Sud-Ovest

The south-western corner of the old city wall still holds a curious, stubborn survivor: a circular defensive tower, built not in grand squared stone but with small, rough-hewn blocks, now partly plastered over. It was once part of a continuous line of urban fortifications, a common sight in Italian hill towns where defence dictated the shape of the street plan. Today, the tower’s martial purpose is long retired. The complex around it has been absorbed into the fabric of modern life, given over to storage and workshops, with some units now fallen into disrepair, their roofs sagging. There is a quiet, unglamorous dignity here. No plaques mark the tower; no ticket booth invites you in. It simply stands, a little scuffed, a little forgotten, holding the memory of a time when the city’s survival depended on walls like this one.
