Terranova da Sibari sits on a plateau in the Crati valley, a landscape shaped by the slow drama of geology: fan deltas, alluvial plains, and the sudden outcrop of limestone-metamorphic rock. Its territory, descending in gentle terraces between erosive gullies, bears the marks of a basin that once widened to let the Calabrian sea transgress far inland. The Norman-period borgo was built spontaneously, its urban fabric adapting to the contours of the ridge. Today, the historic centre unfolds along a network of routes: the ridge-line Via della Carrara, the counter-ridge climb of Salita della Dispensa, and the original settlement line of Via Garibaldi. The town is divided into rioni, Acropoli, Terra, Zaffrana, Imbrievuli, Dispensa, each with its own character. Its defensive system, once a circuit of walls and a castle, is now largely lost; only the eastern gate remains. From the belvederes, the view reaches across the valley, where the past feels close beneath the surface.
