Cappella cimiteriale FAMIGLIA ROSICA

This two-storey cemetery chapel manages its sloping site with unusual poise, providing separate access to each level via different pathways. The principal façade is a study in sober, crafted symmetry: a brick-faced frontage with three steps rising from a rusticated base, flanked by pilasters on Attic bases, their truncated-pyramid capitals bearing floral roundels. These support a cornice that follows the roof pitch, straight over the pilasters and slanted where the eaves descend.

The pointed-arch portal is deeply splayed, its recessed cylindrical columns sprouting capitals of vegetal motifs, while twin cordons trace the arch’s curve. The wrought-iron and glass gate, by the Ranieri brothers of Guardiagrele, features polylobed arcading in the lunette. Above, a stone-carved rose window with moulded frame and floral tracery sits within a radial brick surround. The triangular pediment is crowned with a cross and an elaborate fringe of polylobed hanging arches, floral roundels, and mouldings. Twin inscribed plaques name the chapel on the pilasters; pointed-arch windows with stone-and-brick splayed frames light the side walls.
