*Azetium

Azetium was an ancient settlement in the region of Apulia, near the modern town of Rutigliano. Archaeological evidence attests to its existence from the Iron Age, though the site was already frequented during the Neolithic period and systematically occupied from the final Bronze Age onward. The settlement’s precise location and layout remain somewhat elusive, known primarily through sporadic finds rather than extensive excavation. It offers a quiet, layered glimpse into the long human habitation of this corner of southern Italy, where prehistoric activity gave way to a more structured Iron Age community. Today, the name Azetium survives mostly in scholarly records and local historical references, a fragment of the region’s deeper past.
