The Amphitheatre of Pompeii, one of the oldest surviving Roman amphitheatres, lies in the ancient city near Naples. It was buried, along with Pompeii and neighbouring Herculaneum, by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. During excavations, six bodies were found within its structure.
