Alpes Graiae (region)

The mountainous area around the Little St Bernard Pass, conquered by the Romans and organized by Augustus into the province that took its name (q.v.). The name may reference a people that once inhabited the region; classical theorizing that the name relates to Greeks (e.g., Pliny) has been discounted by modern scholars.
